The vigil begins with the Akathist to St Egwin, Sixth and Ninth Hours, moves through Great Vespers, Compline (including the Akathist to St Basil), Festal Matins, Typica and finishes with the First and Third Hours. It is essentially a vigil of Psalms, Prayers and Readings set for the Feast of St Basil and offers a contemplative beginning to the New Year.
